Diversification For Stress Management

Scott Adams, the creator of the Dilbert comic strip, which has been published in 19
languages in more than 2000 newspapers in 57 countries. In his interview with
Tim Ferriss, Scott claimed himself as a world champion at avoiding stress in dozens of different ways. A lot of it is just how you look at the world, but most of it is really the process of diversification.

According to him, "I am not going to worry about losing one friend if I have a hundred,  but if I have two friends I am really going to be worried. I am going to worry about losing my job because if one my boss is going to fire me, because I have thousands of bosses at newspaper everywhere. One of the ways to not worry about stress is to eliminate it. I do not worry about my stock picks because I have a diversified portfolio. Diversification works in almost every area of your life to reduce your stress".

For myself, I have different ways of handling stress. When I started mortgage business in 2003,I had stress for sometime at the beginning. The main issues during that period of time was about the rate locks. Every time, I had problems about locking the rates for my clients. If locked the rates, I was afraid of losing clients when the rate went down again; and if I did not lock the rate, then I was afraid of the rates going up, and I could not make commitment for my clients. I fixed this locking problem later on, I just locked the rate if the client agreed
for the rate lock. If the rate went down again after the rate, I did not care about whether the borrower shopped around again or not, since I did my best and made the commission. And for the stock investment, I just made it very simple about having the vanguard low cost SP 500 funds. I do not have to worry about it short term.
